Marty vs. HotSchedules: Scheduling and Managed Follow-Through

Marty and HotSchedules can serve different jobs in the same restaurant group. Keep scheduling responsibilities in HotSchedules if it meets your needs; evaluate Marty for the managed work of finding issues, assigning actions, following up, and checking results. Marty is not a like-for-like scheduler replacement.

Compare responsibilities, not just alerts

Fourth's HotSchedules product page describes schedule creation using sales and labor data, mobile access, and updates for managers and staff. Its workforce documentation covers broader functions, so confirm which modules your account includes. HotSchedules product information, Fourth workforce overview. Checked September 15, 2026.

Responsibility HotSchedules Marty
Create and communicate schedules Documented scheduling and mobile team workflow Keeps schedule creation in the existing system
Supply workforce records Confirm active time, labor, and reporting modules Uses agreed authorized records; specific connection must be confirmed
Investigate an unexplained variance Your team's workflow and configured tools Paid Review establishes evidence, priority, owner, and action
Keep the response moving Confirm current team and service responsibilities Optional Managed Profit Control follows up and escalates missed actions
Check the result Define who reviews the next relevant period Optional continuation verifies agreed results against records
Purchase and implementation Provider confirms account modules and price Flat Review fee and access requirements confirmed first

The point of the table is responsibility, not a claim that HotSchedules lacks task or alert capabilities. Ask for the actual account workflow before adding another service.

Use both on one clearly defined issue

Illustrative example: closing hours repeatedly exceed the schedule. Keep the published schedule, revisions, and actual work records in their existing systems. A manager explains the cause and authorizes any future staffing change. Marty can investigate the agreed records, assign the action, and, under optional continuation, follow up and compare the later period with demand and service context. Preserve accurate pay records throughout. Use the manager action log to define which steps stay with the GM and what the managed service will follow up on.

If the real problem is building or communicating schedules, evaluate that workflow directly with the provider. If schedules work but unresolved exceptions keep returning to the owner, define the managed responsibility you need before expanding the stack.

If the unresolved issue is business performance

Replacing a scheduler will not automatically explain an unmatched deposit or a vendor-price discrepancy. It may also leave the same management handoff unresolved if nobody owns the response. The report evidence checklist helps specify the records a cross-system investigation needs before access is agreed.

Marty starts with a paid Cash Recovery Plan, establishing the baseline that tells Marty what to watch first. The Review ranks findings by dollars and location, includes supporting evidence, and names an owner and recommended action. A 30-day plan is discussed with leadership. Existing scheduling, payroll, and accounting responsibilities remain with the systems and people handling them.

Confirm which records can be provided for the Review; do not assume a native connection from a product name alone.

Make a decision with a defined result

For use together, agree which system keeps the records, which manager has decision authority, and what Marty will follow up on. Identify the unresolved questions, required access, and evidence needed to close each issue.

Managed Profit Control is optional after the Review. Start with the diagnosis when you need to know what to fix, rather than which scheduler to buy.

Close the management gap after scheduling

Marty is a managed profit-control layer for multi-unit restaurants.

Find → Assign → Follow up → Verify. Find an unexplained variance using the agreed records. Assign the appropriate manager a decision. Follow up when the next schedule or process change is due. Verify the later result, while preserving accurate pay records and the service your locations need.

Optional Managed Profit Control adds monitoring, alerts, follow-up, escalation, and verification for the agreed operating exceptions that a schedule alone has not resolved.
