Marty vs. Compeat: Accounting Records and Accountable Follow-Through

When an accounting report shows a problem, your team still needs to explain it and decide what comes next. That can be a useful reason to review your operating process. It is not, by itself, a reason to replace your accounting system.

For a group using Compeat, compare the back-office responsibilities with the profit-control function your operating team needs: prioritized actions, ownership, follow-up, and verification. The paid Review establishes the starting baseline for Marty.

First, identify the current product

Restaurant365 acquired Compeat. Its official announcement describes Compeat as providing restaurant back-office, workforce, and business-intelligence software. If your team uses the Compeat name, confirm the specific modules, support arrangement, and workflows active in your account today. Restaurant365 announcement.

Do not assume the account is limited to period-end reports, or that a legacy product name tells you whether alerts and other operating functions are available.

Keep the close separate from the operating action

This responsibility comparison was reviewed September 15, 2026. The acquisition announcement establishes legacy context; present-day Compeat-named module entitlements require account confirmation.

Responsibility Existing Compeat-named setup Marty
Ledger, payroll, accounts payable, and close Inventory the functions actually active and their finance owners Does not replace those systems or responsibilities
Reconciliation records Obtain permitted detail and history from your active modules Uses agreed evidence to investigate unresolved questions
Accounting treatment Finance approves classifications and entries Identifies supported issue and recommends next action; finance retains accounting authority
Ongoing operating follow-through Existing team or contracted scope; confirm who is accountable Optional Managed Profit Control follows actions, escalates missed work, and verifies evidence
Implementation and cost Provider confirms exports, permissions, price, and continuity Review fee, records, and scope agreed first

Keep the accounting system for the close. Consider Marty when an unresolved operating issue spans finance and a location manager. For a supplier credit, purchasing can request the correction, finance confirms whether it posted, and the action stays open until the agreed evidence arrives. A posted reclassification is not automatically recovered cash.

Preserve the accounting responsibilities

Make a list of what the current system does for your team: recording transactions, handling approvals, producing reports, retaining history, and supporting the close. The exact list depends on your setup.

Any replacement decision needs a separate plan for those functions, access, historical records, and reconciliations. Marty should not be evaluated as a general-ledger, payroll, or accounts-payable replacement.

Use the Review for a specific diagnosis

Marty starts with a paid Cash Recovery Plan across the agreed locations and records. It provides findings ranked by dollars and location, supporting evidence, an owner and recommended action, and a 30-day plan discussed live with leadership.

Bring a question such as an unresolved deposit match, a recurring labor variance, or an invoice issue. Confirm which supporting records are available and who can explain the accounting treatment before defining the scope.

Distinguish timing from loss

An unmatched deposit might be awaiting bank posting. A supplier credit might have been agreed but not applied. An operating cost may be real while its classification is wrong. Each needs a different action. The cash reconciliation guide is useful for tracing a deposit question before choosing an accounting or operating action.

A report after close remains useful for resolving those questions. Evidence can support correcting an entry, pursuing a documented credit, or changing a future process. It is inaccurate to assume every historical issue is unrecoverable.

Compare the next-step workflow

Ask your current team and Marty the same questions:

You may find that better use of the current system addresses the gap. A Review is useful when a defined investigation and business-wide prioritization would help.

Managed Profit Control is optional after the Review. Confirm the flat fee and required read-only access first; delivery is seven business days after that access is complete.

Connect the operating action to the accounting evidence

Marty is a managed profit-control layer for multi-unit restaurants. Put the finance handoff in the manager action log so the issue closes against evidence rather than a verbal update.

Find → Assign → Follow up → Verify. Find a supported issue in the records. Assign the responsible operating or finance owner. Follow up until the agreed action is completed or escalated. Verify the resolution against the relevant records so a bookkeeping correction is not confused with recovered cash.

Optional Managed Profit Control adds monitoring, alerts, follow-up, escalation, and verification for the agreed operating issues that need accounting evidence to close.
